⚠️ Parents and carers - please be aware of where your children are spending their time this summer. ⚠️

Yesterday, officers attended a report of two children who had gained access to an abandoned building on Kings Road, Harrogate, known locally as the former Kimberley Hotel.

Thankfully, both children were safe. However, this building presents significant dangers, including the presence of asbestos and large holes in the flooring, creating a serious risk of injury.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident, and we are currently receiving reports of children gaining entry to the building on a regular basis.

While exploring abandoned buildings may seem exciting, these locations can contain hidden hazards that pose a real threat to safety. What may appear to be harmless fun can quickly result in serious injury or exposure to dangerous substances.

We would ask parents and carers to speak with their children about the risks of entering vacant or derelict buildings and to ensure they know where they are spending their time during the school holidays.

Please encourage children to stay in safe locations and remind them never to enter buildings that are boarded up, fenced off, or appear abandoned.
